Nissan has unveiled its first-ever plug-in hybrid Rogue for the 2026 model year, and it’s a bold move even if the innovation mostly rides on Mitsubishi’s shoulders. According to the company, the Rogue PHEV is mechanically nearly identical to the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, borrowing its 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine, twin electric motors, and a ~20 kWh battery pack to produce 248 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque. This SUV offers an estimated 38 miles (around 61 km) of pure electric driving, compatible with Level-2 charging. Interestingly, despite being a plug-in hybrid, it does not support DC fast charging — you’ll need roughly 7.5 hours on a Level-2 charger or nearly 16 hours via a standard outlet. Nissan says the Rogue PHEV can go up to 420 miles (≈ 675 km) when combining electric and petrol power. Moreover, it also comes with all-wheel drive as a standard feature and offers seven different drive modes, including EV-only and one-pedal “e-Step” driving: a nod to fully electric feel. Inside, you’ll find a three-row layout and yes, itt is a 7-seater, making it ideal for families or long road trips. The infotainment setup is solid, with a 9-inch touchscreen, 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and even a 10-inch head-up display in the top-spec trim. For premium audio, Nissan offers a Bose nine-speaker sound system plus rear 120V power outlets in the Platinum trim. But before you consider getting the car, many analysts are calling this a case of “badge engineering.” The Rogue PHEV is essentially an Outlander under a different logo, which raises questions about Nissan’s real innovation in electrification. For buyers, it’s a practical hybrid SUV with serious power and flexibility but not a fully unique Nissan design. Overall, If you want a plug-in hybrid SUV with AWD, strong output, and a long combined range, the Rogue PHEV delivers. Just don’t go in expecting a completely original Nissan.
